Filozofia programu MYP zakłada, że edukacja jest procesem wszechstronnego rozwoju ucznia, w którym wiedza nie funkcjonuje w oderwaniu, lecz łączy się z różnymi dziedzinami życia i z otaczającym światem. W centrum tego procesu znajduje się uczeń, a rola nauczyciela polega nie tylko na przekazywaniu informacji, lecz przede wszystkim na inspirowaniu do zadawania pytań, poszukiwania odpowiedzi i krytycznego myślenia.
MYP akcentuje znaczenie indywidualnego potencjału każdego ucznia – jego talentów, mocnych stron i własnego stylu uczenia się. Jednocześnie program wspiera rozwijanie świadomości kulturowej, zachęcając młodych ludzi do poznawania historii, tradycji i wartości swojego narodu, ale także do okazywania zrozumienia, otwartości i szacunku wobec innych kultur i sposobów patrzenia na świat. W ten sposób promuje wartości budujące wspólnotę ludzką, takie jak empatia i odpowiedzialność.
Istotnym elementem nauki w MYP jest również rozwijanie umiejętności komunikacyjnych – zarówno swobodnego i precyzyjnego wyrażania myśli w języku ojczystym i obcym, jak i zdolności uważnego słuchania, interpretowania przekazów oraz prowadzenia dialogu z innymi.
Filozofia IB wyraża się ponadto poprzez nacisk na:
• rozumienie pojęć i idei (conceptual understanding),
• naukę w kontekście, czyli powiązanie wiedzy z realnymi sytuacjami,
• Approaches to Learning (ATL) – strategie efektywnego uczenia się,
• Service as Action, czyli działania na rzecz społeczności,
• język i tożsamość jako fundament rozwoju ucznia,
• integrację różnorodnych stylów uczenia się oraz włączającą edukację.
Dzięki temu MYP przygotowuje uczniów do odpowiedzialnego funkcjonowania w globalnym świecie, rozwijając ich intelektualnie, emocjonalnie i społecznie.
